SUMMARY:From Lighthouse Cases to Exascale Practice: Outcomes of CEEC
DESCRIPTION:Since 2023\, the Center of Excellence in Exascale CFD (CEEC) has worked to make high-fidelity CFD ready for Europe’s exascale systems. Its work has been driven by six lighthouse cases chosen to push physics and software to their limits\, addressing challenges from aeronautics\, offshore energy\, process engineering\, shipping\, and atmospheric flows. This community workshop presents what those cases have delivered.\nIn aeronautics\, wall-modeled large-eddy simulations of a transonic airliner wing with FLEXI and its GPU counterpart GALÆXI have improved shock-buffet prediction and confirmed that trailing-edge pressure fluctuations drive the shock oscillations. Coupled Alya and SOD2D fluid–structure simulations of the SFB 401 wing in transonic flight give more physically grounded load predictions than RANS-based approaches. Fully resolved fluid–particle simulations with waLBerla have exposed the grain-scale physics of piping erosion during suction-bucket installation for offshore wind turbines\, improving the engineering models that predict it. With Neko\, topology optimization has been extended to turbulent static mixers\, and high-fidelity simulations of a merchant ship hull provide reference data for lower-fidelity models. Nek5000 and NekRS have advanced high-order large-eddy simulation of stable and convective atmospheric boundary layers.\nSpeakers will also share lessons from running these workflows on EuroHPC systems such as LUMI and MareNostrum 5\, from GPU porting and mixed-precision\, energy-efficient solvers to adaptive mesh refinement\, uncertainty quantification and interactive visualization\, and discuss how the community can build on the resulting codes\, methods and data. The workshop targets CFD practitioners\, code developers\, HPC centers and industry users who want to see what exascale CFD delivers today\, and where it goes next. \n\n	Notice: JavaScript is required for this content.
